Mylva receives new simplified registrations for biocidal products

Mylva has recently obtained registrations for the MAGNET FLYING FAMILY biocidal-product line through the simplified registration format, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 528/2012 on the marketing of biocidal products.

This new registration includes the products MAGNET FLIES and MAGNET DROSOPHILA, attractants to be used in traps for controlling fly and fruit-fly pests, respectively. Both products form part of a strategy focused on offering effective, safe and more environmentally friendly solutions.

The simplified registration is specifically designed for biocidal products that pose a lower risk to human and animal health and the environment. Only products that meet strict sustainability and safety criteria can benefit from this type of authorization, in line with new market and societal trends.

With these advances, Mylva has now registered three products under this simplified format, including the silverfish attractant MAGNET SILVERFISH.
This achievement allows us to continue growing with our commitment to innovation and sustainability. Our regulatory team continues to develop new registration strategies to enter the market as soon as possible, always offering quality solutions.

Mylva extends its fight against pests

One consequence of climate change is the greater spread of pests—a problem Mylva, a family-owned company that researches, develops, manufactures and distributes biocides and accessories for insect and rodent control, is actively combating. The Catalan company proudly notes it has completed a successful generational handover as it celebrates its 35th anniversary.

The results bear this out: while in 2023 it billed 11.5 million euros with an EBITDA margin of 15%, this year it expects to reach 13 million, nearly 60 % more than in 2019. CEO Albert Picas explains that the company—founded 35 years ago by his father, Mateu Picas—is immersed in an expansion project “to improve its production capacity,” which began with the new laboratory inaugurated last year in Sant Cebrià de Vallalta, in Maresme.

Mylva, which employs around fifty people, has 19 products registered as its own under the biocides regulation and 250 registrations and authorizations in more than thirty countries. In addition, over the coming years it plans to add 15 products currently under development to its catalog, 70 % of which are considered green or low-environmental-impact. “We’re focusing heavily in this direction, not only because the market and society demand it, but because it’s also embedded in the company’s philosophy,” the CEO notes.

This requires “large investments” due to the tightening of European regulations in this field, which lengthens time frames and increases costs, according to Picas. “Thirty years ago products were used that killed everything but were very harmful to the environment and people,” he explains. Today, however, the way to eradicate pests has become more sophisticated, leading to a highly professionalized sector in Spain, the executive adds.

Mylva focuses its main activity on supplying companies that work in pest control, although it also has distributors in 25 countries and a division for domestic customers. Its catalog offers a range of half a thousand products, of which it manufactures about twenty and also produces for third parties. This diversified strategy, with strong investment in R&D, is driving its expansion in a sector where acquisitions by investment funds and multinationals are common.

Mylva doubles its production capacity with the new Sant Pol de Mar facility

As part of its 2024 Strategic Expansion Plan, Mylva has inaugurated a new facility at its production center in Sant Pol de Mar (Barcelona). The plant is now fully operational and represents a decisive step in the company’s growth strategy.

With this expansion, the company doubles its production capacity, enabling it to respond more quickly to market demand and accelerate the launch of new solutions. In addition, storage space has been expanded to 900 pallets, optimizing logistics and ensuring product availability at all times.

This investment reinforces Mylva’s commitment to operational excellence and to providing the best service in the sector, consolidating its leadership position and laying the groundwork for future challenges.

Mylva, 35 years

With 35 years of history, MYLVA SA continues to honor its origins in the Gràcia neighborhood of Barcelona, where it was born with research and development etched into its DNA. That venture, which began by distributing chemical products, evolved toward creating its own solutions, always driven by innovation.

Reaching this stage of business maturity is an achievement reserved for very few companies and has been made possible thanks to all the people who have been part of MYLVA along the way. We continue looking to the future with the same enthusiasm as on day one and with the firm commitment to improve people’s lives through sustainable and responsible products.
